A 30-photo exhibition that depicts how Singaporeans from all walks of life seek to share their moments with. These moments may be a simple one shared between friends, family or just a close acquaintance. What we hope to convey to the viewers is that while we are so immersed in our own busy lives, we tend to overlook those moments that bring joy or even brings us closer to those we are with.

Life is half spent before we know what it is.

Living through the hustle and bustle of life, the older generations now seek to live a simpler life.With the mind worn out by time, this group’s most precious moments are not spent seeking thrills and excitement. Rather, they seek solace in companionship and support, either from the physical or the spiritual.

Their moments also revolve around their slow-paced lifestyle. Many can be seen in a moment of stasis, where the rushing crowd hustles around them, but they themselves stay rooted, taking in the moment of serenity that only they will experience.

It is not how much you do, but how much love you put in the doing.

The pursuit of interests and hobbies dominate most of the moments that middle aged people live in and cherish. They strive for the perfection of their interests, often publicly displaying the result of their hard work.

They also defer from the interests of youths, where their interests lies in less robust and more unhurried activities. Small surprises also confer them with valuable moments, be it the netting of a fish or discovering a ‘treasure’ among the heaps of scattered items. These minute instances bring about a greater joy in their lives, more than what one would usually expect. But this is the age where they have seen most of what life throws at us, thus giving them a greater appreciation of the smaller things in life.

The pursuit of happiness

Being in the Gen Y, many things are deemed significant for this group of people. Spending time with friends and family, engaging in various sports and activities, and seeking out new thrills. These youths possess the strong desire to do whatever they want, whenever they want, taking with them risks wherever they go. To them, life is too short to be bothered by the littlest things in life. Life, to them, is like a moment to live for. They will not stop, until they feel that they have gotten enough.

This drive in youth is commendable for only they have such strength and enthusiasm to do what they do. It is also at this age where they begin to grow and mature, becoming more independent as they leave their childhood behind. They seek new meanings in life, carving their own momentoes as they embark on a journey without any strict rules.

Children the essence of our lives

Being very innocent and carefree, children are given the luxury to do anything they want. The photos here have thus captured the essence of what being a child means. In every shot, we see the playfulness and happiness in their eyes. Everything seems interesting to them and they can make a game out of anything – even playing with water. Children are indeed the essence of our lives and their smiles never fail to brighten up our day. Those precious moments with them are best cherished, for they do not last long.

If love is shelter, we never have to walk in the rain.

I forgot what my troubles were even if for a moment. Your love chased them all away.

We wanted to capture how Singaporeans from different levels of society show affection to each other.

However, we found that it will be too cliche to capture such images that are already widely known and seen and thus, we refined the theme further and changed it to AFFECTION.

By Affection, we are trying to break away from the norm and to actually show what Singaporeans are most passionate about and how they show affection towards it. Such examples include the (mad) affection for cars and racing and the affection towards religion.

After weeks of toiling and spending endless hours snapping away, we found that it was difficult to link all the pictures together. While some pictures do link to one another when put in a sequence, others are just left hanging and being made the ‘outcast’. This is also despite the fact that we found some images to be slightly blurred, which only results in further frustrations to re-shoot it.

We have finally come to a consensus after much brainstorming and so our final theme is on MOMENTS — Moments to share and to live for.
